American History II

American History II students are discussing 9-11 and the events thereafter.  We have watched two films concerning 9-11.

EXTRA CREDIT: Discuss your impression of the film "9-11" that we watched in class.  You can also discuss the video of 9-11 that was assigned on the educanon.com site.

  1. I found the video that we watched in class to be the most revealing of the emotion on 9-11 of any videos I have watched. When the events on September the 11th happened I was too young to understand the the true scale of the event. This video has led me closer to understanding the true effect, and horror of 9-11.
On the contrary, the video documenting US action on 9-11 made me skeptical of our national response system as a whole. This video shows our true colors when any response to a national catastrophe is throttled by lengthy bureaucracy. It reminds me of a the description of the Vogons in "Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy".

  2. The 9/11 attacks affected every person in there own way. The movie was really interesting because I had never really watched anything on the 9/11 attacks from the firefighters point of view. And how many brave firefighters had died that day trying to save the lives of others that were stuck in the building. Even with the video on educannon I learned new information about the attackers and how we suspected that the planes were hijacked in the first place. I remember being really little when it happened and coming home from school with my family watching the news. Its scary to think why others would plan terrorist attacks on us and if there will be more in the future. But watching the educannon video we seem like we're gonna be more prepared than we were with 9/11 for the future. -Haley L

  3. That movie gave me a new outlook on 9/11. Before, I never really understood what those people went through, and how they felt. It gave me a new respect for those first responders. The educannon video was very informative. I learned how the military and government played into the events of 9/11, and how the civilians were the ones who stepped up that day, because our government failed to respond.

  4. The video on 9/11 focused on the emotions of all the people and how they reacted to the crises. There were people running down the street crying. They captured perfectly how people felt and how they put themselves in danger trying to save as many people as they could, how they slowly rebuilt their lives and the buildings, how they dealt with the fear of another attack and how their trust in the government wavered. I hadn't really thought of how it affected people who were actually involved before. I was really little, we were home schooled so we weren't exposed to any of the people who had relatives and friends who were involved and we didn't have a TV so we had no exposure to the effects or anything.
