EXTRA CREDIT: The battle of Antietam is regarded as the bloodiest battle of the war. Describe why this battle was significant.
The battle of Antietam was significant because it was the cause of Lincoln's Emancipation Proclimation. The proclimaation caused thousands of blacks to run away from their owners and go north to join the Union army so that blacks would be freed from slavery. This gave the Union a boost of man power. It also showed the Europeans that it was a war over slavey so the stopped supporting the south. It also took workers from the plantations so the cotton plantations didn't have as much slave power.

It is when Lincoln told the south that they had tell the first of the year to stop fighting . They didn't stop fighting so Lincoln said that he would free all slaves. That is when the slaves started to run away to help the union win the war so there family's and friends could be set free. This started a big move to the north for the slaves. The only way they could be free is if they could help the Union win the war. Then they could be free.

The battle of Antietam was important because it made Lincoln create the Preliminary Emancipation Proclamation. Saying all rebels should surrender or slaves are free. It was a union win. Jack
