American History II is studying the Holocaust.  We have watched films, discussed some of the causes and events, and we have listened to a Holocaust Survivor, Pete Metzelaar.

  1. I think that one of the most important reasons for the Holocaust would be the impression that Hitler had of them and basically how he convinced everyone around him to feel. He had several experiences that made him feel the way he did about Jewish people and ultimately he was responsible for creating the antisemitism movement. Anyone who went against him would be arrested or killed themselves Just like Shindler was arrested in the movie. He helped them in one scene by giving them water and he was later arrested. They told him it was because he kissed a Jewish girl also, which he did do. Hitler, in my perspective is probably the leading cause of the Holocaust.

I think that Germany essentially wanting someone to blame for the condition of Germany after WWI, was a main cause of the Holocaust.

After WWI the Treaty of Versailles left Germany in an economic depression and the Jews were often accused of "keeping all the money to themselves". This mixed with the fact that Antisemitism was pretty common throughout Germany made it easy for Hitler to place blame on the Jews. Anti-Semitism was encouraged by Hitler in order to give Germans a scapegoat for the troubles German people were having.

  3. I think Hitler's use of propaganda played a huge part in starting the Holocaust. He made everyone live in fear, not just of him and his solders but of there neighbors and friends.

  4. in my opinion, i think that the most important cause of the holocaust was the way that hitler could get people to follow him so easily. he was such an amazing speaker that he persuaded people to think the way that he thought in just a couple words even. the way he felt about jewish peopl was just the way that HE felt, but since he had so many followers it just took off and he got everything he wanted.

  5. In my opinion one of the main reasons of the Holocaust was the Prejudice against the Jews. They have been scapegoats throughout many centuries and are viewed as "lesser humans". Another reason is that Hitler is a very manipulative and charismatic person that brought Germany out of a dark time. He used their weakness to convince them that it was the Jews fault that all of this bad stuff happened.
