American History I

American History I students are studying how and why our Constitution was created.

EXTRA CREDIT: Discuss 1 or 2 of the more significant compromises that had to be agreed upon in order to complete the Constitution and get the States to ratify.

  1. The Great Compromise. The Virginia Plan wanted a strong government with three branches, while the New Jersey Plan wanted a plan amending the old articles while allowing a stronger government. The Great Compromise instead combined these two plans creating two houses with one based on population and one elected by the people, as well as allowing 2 senators per state be appointed by state legislatures.

  2. One compromise was the Great Compromise where they decided that the people were to be represented in the House of Representatives while the states would be equally represented in the Senate. Another compromise was to add the Bill of Rights. This had to be added in order for the rest of the states needed to ratify the Constitution.

  3. The 3/5 compromise, which had to do with counting some of the slaves in the population of that state. It is the number 3/5 because there were some states that had little to no slaves and there were some with a large amount of them. Another compromise that had to be made was the adding of the bill of rights. This insured that the people would have their own individual rights.

It is the number 3/5 because there were some states with little to no slaves and there were states with many slaves. Another compromise was the addition of the bill of rights. This insured that the people would all have there own individual rights.

  5. The Great Compromise. This was a combination of both the Virginia Plan (plan wanting 3 different branches of government) and the New Jersey plan (plan wanting 2 different branches of government, but both are equally as powerful). If this compromise didn't occur, then our government could possibly still be in a feud about the power and different government branches.

  6. The Great Compromise. It was the combination of both the Virginia Plan (a plan consisting of 3 different branches of government) and the New Jersey Plan (a plan consisting of 2 different branches, but both being of equal power). The compromise of these 2 plans unified the states further, making them believe that the dream can come true now. If this hadn’t happened, then our states still may be fighting about the power and type of government branches.

  7. Five states had ratified the Constitution but only because a Bill of Rights was promised, Madison at the beginning had not agreed with the Bill but Jefferson convinced him by saying: How would a judge know what rights go with people? that in addition of what I said at the beginning. So Madison wrote the ten first amendments of the Constitution, the Bill of Rights.

  8. One of them was The Great Compromise because it saved the constitutional convention and the Union and it was both the Virginia plan, and this was the plan to build a strong government along with the 3 branches such as the executive, judicial, and legislative branch and It was the Virginia plan, A plan by James Madison to have a bicameral legislative branch.
