American History II
Senior American History has been discussing various aspects of the Cold War. We will soon be covering U.S. involvement in Vietnam.
Extra Credit: What aspects of the Cold War do you find interesting and why?
The most interesting thing for me was the Truman Doctrine. It was a plan to try to get rid of communism. Communism was never really accepted, especially in America and that is why Truman decided to have that in order. Communism could have been handled in many different other ways but Truman did everything to the best of his ability, throughout that period of time.
I think the most interesting part of the cold war would be the massive amount of nuclear weapons that were produced and tested by the U.S and the world.
J. Meeker Personally the most interesting thing about the cold war is the spying. I think it's cool they used spying and tried to out smart each other.
I think the most interesting part of the cold war is that the CIA surfaced during the cold war. And that at the time they basically assassinated people that had anything to do with communism.
What I find most interesting about the cold war was how much of an effect it had all over the globe. The world was split in two with NATO and the Warsaw pact. It was in some aspects almost a passive world war. Looking at the ways that the US and Russia "battled" each other. The idea of containment got us involved in a lot of other country's business.
The most interesting aspect of the cold war was the formation of the Central Intelligence Agency. It was started back in 1947 specifically to attain intelligence about other countries, especially communist countries. A really good movie that details the beginning of the CIA is "The Good Shepard." Another cold war era film that successfully satirizes the public paranoia during this period is 'Dr. Strangelove" one of the greatest movies of all time.
I think the most interesting fact of the cold war is that we supplied many of the groups that we fight against today with weapons. This has caused many more conflicts, resulting from cold war activities.
The most interesting thing about the cold war to me would be how against communism people were at that time and all killings of people that were even thought the have anything to do with communism. Also that we supplied the enemy with weapons and ammo that they then used to fight us.
