American History I
American History I students are completing their unit on the American Civil War. We have discussed the causes, battles, events, and ending. EXTRA CREDIT: What single event do you feel turned the tide of the war in favor of the North and why?
I think the war was turned when black slaves were allowed to fight in the army. It gave the north hundreds of thousands of freshly garrisoned soldiers, people to guide them through the south, and much more. These advantages were too much for the south to handle.
I believe the turning point for the North was when they won the battle of Gettysburg. It was one of their biggest wins and it gave Lincoln the chance to approve the Emancipation Proclamation and it gave the North another reason to fight even when the South was more motivated because they were fighting a defensive war.
