American History I

American History I students are discussing the Civil War.  Its beginning, and the major events throughout the war.


EXTRA CREDIT: What single event turned the tide of the war?  A battle, presidential action? Explain your answer.

  1. The battle that turned the tide of the war was the Battle of Shiloh. That battle made the Union think that the confederates were not to be taken lightly. It also was deemed one of the bloodiest battles in the war.

  3. The thing that seemed like the turning point was when the states decided to leave that they wouldn't be a part of the United States anymore so the rules wouldn't apply to them. He also decided to block off all the ports so the south didn't have any of the other countries bringing them supplies so they ran out which was really terrible for them. So Lincoln was a huge thing that helped turn the war to the north's favor.

  4. The Battle at Shiloh turned the tide of the civil war. It was the fierciest fighting the Civil War had yet seen. This was the turning point in the war because after the North got defeated in the Battle of Bull Run,the tables turned when the Union caused the Confederates to retreat after a surprise attack at the Battle of Shiloh. Even though the Union won, the cost of its victory was dreadful.
