American History I have been discussing the events and causes that led to the American Revolution. Beginning with the French and Indian War and including the British trade policies and American resistance to these policies.
EXTRA CREDIT: What do you think was the major reason for the colonists to declare their independence...and explain why you think this.
I think the major reason for the colonists to declare their independence were the British Laws. The colonists hated that the British changed their laws and made them abide by their own. The writs of assistance was one law in particular that the colonists did not like. This law allowed the British to have random searches through people's houses. This law took away the colonists' privacy and caused the colonists to declare their independence.

i think the main reason for the revolt of the colonies was British taxing and continued suppression of the colonies such as not allowing movement west, searches of privet homes for no reason and it was also required to house British troops in privet homes with no compensation
ReplyDeleteI think that the major reason the colonists declared their independence was a combination of all the oppressive British laws. Britain prohibited them from moving west of the Appalachian mountains, required colonists to have soldiers live in their homes, and passed ridiculous taxes on various items. With the Intolerable Acts, the British closed the Boston port and made laws that said only governors (who came from Britain) were able to appoint government officials. On top of all of these laws, the king had passed the Declaratory Act, which said he had the right to tax and rule colonists, which was ridiculous, since he was already taxing and ruling the colonists as he pleased. With all of these laws,I think the colonists finally snapped. I don't think that any one law by the king was the main reason for the Revolution, I think it was just a cumulation of British laws that the colonists didn't like.

I think that the colonist finally declared independence because they were being taxed buy the British and it didn't make any sense since they were over seas and Britain thought they could take as much as they wanted from them. They got feed of with being taxed under ridiculous circumstances.
