AHII: American History II students are beginning our 9-11 unit.
EXTRA CREDIT: Discuss some of the effects that 9-11 had on America.
9-11 caused a lot of worry to come across the USA. There was also a lot of hurt in people over the lost of their loved ones. In my option the government over reacted with all of the things in the airports now. -Brittany H-W
After the attack of 9-11, there were many things that affected the people of the U.S. Health problems like PTSD, asthma, cancer, and many other things were reported for several years after the fact. Transportation options became more strict with security. The American people also began looking at the Muslim society as a terrorist society. Insurance losses were one and a half times greater than previous largest disaster. Tourism also declined which caused a loss of many jobs within the industry.
I would say the biggest impact would be the control that it gave our government to monitor and control what goes on. The USA Patriot Act is said to be an acronym that stands for Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism. The response by George W. Bush to implement this Act was a direct reaction to the 9/11 attacks. The Act pretty much just enabled law enforcement to do monitoring of the people. Either by doing things like wire-tapping or even just getting medical or financial records. It loosened the restrictions on all law enforcement agencies. Another major impact would be the unity that our country has had since the attacks. I think it's pretty safe to say that we came together as a country for the most part and help support each other and aid the families who lost members to the attacks.
Some of the effects of 9/11 on America have stayed with us. Along with countless families who were scarred from this tragedy, a sense of fear or paranoia was instilled within just about every American family. Everyone was afraid of what was going to happen next. The past 10 years since 9/11 have been more confusing and tragic than anyone would have like it to be.
As a result of the attack on the Twin Towers our country’s security policies have become extremely strict. Now at airports people go through more extreme screenings and are no longer allowed to carry liquids on the plane. More recently, citizens are forced to go through a full body scanner that pushes the boundaries of privacy. 9/11 also caused a fear in the U.S. government that made them past strict laws against terrorism like the Patriot Act. This law enables police to search anyones house who is suspicious of terrorism without permission, and get a warrant for it later. This law was created from fear and it severely interferes with the rights of our fourth amendment. As a result of 9/11 the U.S. government has made changes that may protect us, but also take away our rights guaranteed by the Constitution. - Kelsey Hammond
As a result of 9/11 many things changed within our country. Many people now live in complete fear of our government, thinking that with one slip up they will be labeled as a terrorist and locked up for life. Also, many of our rights guaranteed to us in the Constitution have been limited to the point of basically not existing anymore. Many people have died as a result of the bombing, as well as the war that came after the bombing on our homeland. America will never be the same again. --Sari
Not only did the 9-11 attack cause a tightening on security, but %30 of New Yorkers suffered from PTSD six month after the attack. The Travel Industry Association of America said that more than 500,000 travel-related industry workers lost their jobs nationally after 9-11. A positive effect, however, is that nearly %50 of people in the US started keeping up with current events due to this catastrophe.
The 9/11 attacks have greatly impacted America. From the families who lost loved ones, to people not even directly related to the attacks, it left a huge scar on this country. It set a tone of fear in daily living and the talk and paranoia of terrorist attacks is everywhere. As a result, and to try and prevent further attacks the U.S. security systems have become much more strict and it seems that the government has access to more things and can invade privacy a lot more because they have "good reason". I think to some extent more security was good but i also believe they have taken it a little too far. Kendra
9/11 effected the US in many different ways. By government and by the people. After the attacks many families were afraid of what was going to happen next. We also stepped up our airport security like we cant bring on certain liquids because of the possibility of making a bomb
One way was it caused security in the United States to increase exponentially, also it increased the level of racism directed towards the Arab/ Muslim race.
Also, it caused widespread fear of what was next to come, and how the United States was going to respond.
9/11 had a huge impact on everything, everyone and every place. it put fear in to the government and caused them to out strict laws and terrorism. going through an airport is much difficult to go through just to try to prevent any acts of terrorism. it devastated many many of the families that had a loved one go down in the planes and in the twin towers. it put fear in every day life of a lot of american's. - Alexa Mrgich.
9/11 had a huge impact on our country. Since 9/11 security has became a lot stricter especially in airports. For example, people are no longer able to carry liquids on a plane. Random bag searches also occur before boarding a plane. There were thousands of victims from the 9/11 attacks. All the people who died left behind families and the people who made it alive will be haunted with those memories and many affected by PTSD for the rest of their lives. Laws trying to stop terrorism have also been put into place that have very strict government control. Several people still live with fear everyday because of the 9/11 attack. --Kayla Neuman
9/11 had many effects on our country. The big one is how we handle our airports. The security has gone way up since that day. Our government has cracked down way more on "terrorist" or anyone they think is a terrorist. -Brittany
9/11 had a massive effect on many things like security, racism, and paranoia.
Its affected security because now you are limited to what you can bring on an airplane, like liquids and pastes and shampoos are also limited.
Its affected Racism because prejudice towards Muslims/ Arabs have increased exponentially due to the event.
Its affected Paranoia because I have been on several airplanes, trains, and even buses, where an Muslim/ Arab has stepped aboard and other passengers had become noticeably worried or nervous.
