AHI

American History students have watched "Dances With Wolves" and will soon conclude our unit on western expansion.

EXTRA CREDIT:  Traditionally, Indians have not been depicted well in film. Discuss how Indians were treated in this film. Where they portrayed fairly?  Why do you think so, or why don't you think so?

  1. I believe that they were depicted pretty well in this film. At first the Indians were mean because they were scared. Once they realized what a nice guy Dances with Wolves was they let him in. This is with any race, sex, or anyone. It takes awhile to let someone in to your life. Also, when it comes to the way they lived and fought, I think that was also pretty accurate.

  2. In my opinion they were really not depicted as well as they could have been. The Indians were not all mean only a few of them. But as soon as Dances with Wolves proved his loyalty to them they brought him into there lives and made him one of there own.

  3. In the film the Native Americans were depicted in many different ways. The tribes were shown as peaceful or violent by their demeanor and war paintings. The peaceful tribe did not have a lot of harsh paints and mean looks. They tried hard to understand the white man. The violent tribe had very mean looks and harsh paints. I thinks this portrayed the Native Americans correctly.

  4. I think the indian were depicted well in this movie. They were shown as a people that wanted to know the way another civilization lived. They werent mean to John Dunbar they just didnt know he didnt mean any harm at first. After they knew he was not going to hurt them and he could be trusted they exepted him as one of there own and tought him what they knew and learned from what he knew. They weer shown as a people that defended what was there even against other indian tribes like and civilization would.
