  1. The use of bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were just test to see what the bombs would do. How destructive and devastating they would be. I think they should not have used such force while attacking the Japanese. -jacob nowakowski

  2. for: show Japan that the US had a lot of power, end up the war once and for all, weaken their moral/economy.
against: its is an immoral method, millions of innocent people died, included children, it is a horrible way to die

  3. The argument for the use of the atomic weapons is
    A) Dropping the bombs prevented the invasion of Japan and forced them to surrender, which they most likely would not have done until thousands of soldier and civilians died.
    B) To send a message to the Soviets, and demonstrate this new and powerful weapon America possessed.

The argument against using atomic weapons is
    A) That is was inhuman to kill so many civilian with such a destructive weapon
    B) There may have been a possibility for Japan's surrender without an invasion or the use of nuclear weapons.

  4. Dropping the atomic bomb on Japan was considered as the reason that they surrendered the war, however, some people think that dropping the bomb wasn't needed. Pros of dropping the bomb on Japan include: The invasion would have caused more casualties on both sides, using in proved that it was a bad weapon of mass destruction and prevented further use on any other human population, and impressed the Soviet Union to deter them from demanding part ownership over Japan. Cons of the atom bomb dropping on Japan: A demonstration could have scared Japanese people enough to have them surrender, no warning was given to the innocent people of Nagasaki or Hiroshima, and regular bombs would have done justice without using nuclear weapons.

  6. The reason for using the atomic bombs in Japan were to help end the war quickly, without losing as many American lives. It also kept the Soviet Union out of Japan. The reasons against the atomic bombing of Japan are the huge amounts of lives lost. The two cities weren't military cities, so there were more civilians killed than military personnel.

  7. The basic argument for the use of the atomic bomb in Hiroshima and Nagasaki is that it saved many Americans that would have otherwise died in two D-Day-style land invasions of the main islands of the Japanese homeland. The argument against the bomb is that the use of the bomb was illegal and it was only supposed to be used for defense.

  8. The basic arguments for the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were that if we were to invade Japan, there would be way too many casualties on both sides. Also during the Yalta conference, Stalin decided that he was going to invade Japan. The U.S. didn't want him to be able to claim the land as communist territory after the war, so two days before they were to invade, we dropped the bomb on Hiroshima. The basic arguments against the use of the bomb were that it was more to keep Russia out and the bombing was technically illegal according to the League of Nations. Also there were other alternatives to dropping atomic bombs on civilian cities.

  9. The basic arguments for the use of the atomic bomb on both Hiroshima and Nagasaki are that is was an untouched city with quite a lot of people, and that the bomb was conducted during the last stages of the war. The arguments on against the bomb are the Japanese were about ready to cal it quits, Japanese lives were simply sacrificed for the power politics between the US and Soviet Union.
