American History II students are beginning a unit on 9-11. The events that led to it, what happened on that day, and what the impacts have been as a result of 9-11.
EXTRA CREDIT: Of all the impacts of 9-11, which one(s) do you believe to be the most significant and why? (Make sure you check spelling and punctuation)
I believe that the most significant impact of 9/11 was the security. The attacks of 9/11 opened up our eyes to the fact that we were not completely safe from attacks. This made us create new laws that effect the lives of everyday american's. Nobody can show up for a flight without going through multiple stations of security checks. Some airports even have scanners that can look underneath your clothes. Every person likes to feel that they are safe and protected. The attacks on 9/11 took that safe feeling and made us realize that we were actually vulnerable and not invincible. That was the biggest impact that I believe the attacks of 9/11 had on our country.
ReplyDeleteI think the biggest impact on people is the stereotypes and how different nationalities are judged like its their fault things happened when they had nothing to do with it. Another thing might be the surveillance now days.

I believe that the most significant impact from 9-11 was probably the security measures that have changed since the event. The reason that I believe this to be the most significant effect is because it didn't just affect America, but it affected the entire world. New measurements have been taken when it comes to building, such as federal buildings now have to meet new standards, like putting air handling systems high enough to stop a biological agent from being introduced into air intakes, and building need to be far enough from the street to guard against car bombs. Security measures have also been taken when it comes to air travel. Now shoes need to be taken off at checkpoints, Special items, such as electronics must be pulled from luggage, Jackets and outerwear must be removed, there are now body scan machine screenings, No liquids above 3.4 ounces are allowed through checkpoints, and no more non ticketed visitors are allowed at the airline gates. These are just some of the changes made to the security measures taken since 9-11. There are many many more and we are still experiencing the effects today. However, on the flip side, this has helped a lot too , because maybe these measures needed to be taken. Maybe something worse could have happened if 9-11 never happened. Either way, it is nice to know that the security is for everyones safety and even though it's made things more difficult, it has also made things safer and easier in the long run.
ReplyDeleteOne effect of 9/11 is it has been tremendously painful for millions of people in Afghanistan, Iraq, Pakistan, and the United States, and economically costly as well. The human costs of these conflicts will reverberate for years to come in each of those four countries. Another significant impact is all the security that we have to go through. It's really difficult to get anywhere anymore because they have to check everything of yours. For Americans this is one of the most significant impacts because it shows how much danger we really are still in. I think it's really good though how cautious they are of our safety now.
ReplyDeleteI believe that there were three things that their impact stood out to me and even today still have an impact on the world and US. War, Immigration and Deportation, and Airport security. And although families who were immediately affected may beg to differ that the emotional impacts where the most significant. When we went to Afghanistan to remove Al-Qaeda and the Taliban government. Two years later we went into Iraq which was most likely closely related to the War On Terror. It was one of the longest wars and many troops and people were killed or injured. As for immigration and deportation, I think it strengthened us because we became so much, and I use this term lightly, but fearful so securities became more advanced and we weren't as easy to leave and get into. As far as airports go 9/11 was probably the only reason why airport security is so tight. There are so many more checks you and your belongings have to go through before you can get on a flight, it isn't as basic anymore and you can't just show up wait about a half an hour and go. I think these are three of the many impacts that stood out to me. 9/11 was one of those terrible things that really strengthened American and proved that were weren't this indestructible thing that had nothing to fear that we were vulnerable to things like this happening.
ReplyDeleteI think the biggest impact that came from 9/11 was the Government and citizen's new way of thinking. Everyone was filled with distrust after the attacks. The most obvious change that came from this was security. The TSA created strict rules and regulations just to enter the airport. Everyone in America seemed to discriminate everyone that seemed to resemble someone from Iraq or Afghanistan, even if they were born in America. Our way of life had changed after the attacks. Security was heightened every where, and we no longer trusted anyone outside, and even inside our own countries.

I believe the that all of the impacts of 9/11 were significant, but I believe the biggest impact that it had was the impact on the Government and security. After the 9/11 attack it showed American how cruel people can be and how terrorism is actually a big deal. This made security on aware of everything and everyone. Security in airports got increasingly strict and high alerted. The Government even started wiretapping phone calls to try to prevent anymore attacks. Before the attack everyone felt safe and protected. Once it had happened we no longer felt that safeness. We were now vulnerable.
ReplyDeleteOf all the impacts of 9-11 the worst would have to be the political obsession with defense spending, when we don't have the money to spend while our economy has faltered and is crashing, the US still spends money on defensive spending. Another big reason that I think gets the most attention is racial profiling of Muslim-Americans and a connection with terrorism. Which makes it almost impossible for them to go threw an airport.
