AHI students have been studying the causes/events leading to the American Revolution. Specifically, what did the British do and how did the colonists respond to British policies?
EXTRA CREDIT: Of all the British policies, what do you think was the most significant? In other words, what did the British do that caused the colonists to rebel? Explain. Or conversely, what did the colonists do that prompted the British do what they did? Explain.
EXTRA CREDIT: Another question to consider: how did the colonists win their independence when only 1/3 supported such a move?
i think the Stamp act was the most significant. the colonist rebelled by throwing british tea into the harbor.
ReplyDeleteThe intolerable acts had a significant effect on the colonists' rebellion. Closing the port of Boston damaged the economy and the quatering act was like and insult. The colonists had to pay to house the soldiers and had to make sure they were well fed and supplied. They had to spend money they didn't particularly want to on the soldiers some didn't nescesariliy like. --Brandi N
ReplyDeleteAfter the colonists rebelled by means of the Boston Massacre the British repealed the Townshend Acts, keeping only the duty on Tea as a symbol of the Parliament's authority. To me the parliament's passage of the Tea Act of 1773 was the most significant of the British Policies. On the conversely I believe the Boston Tea Party to be the most significant of the colonists rebels. The Sons of Liberty disguised as Indians, climbed aboard three tea ships split open 342 chests of tea and pushed them into the Harbor, this was the Boston Tea Party.

ReplyDeleteThe Stamp Act was the most significant to the colonists. It caused the most distress because it was a visible and physical tax that had to be purchased with any paper document. It alerted the colonists who were oblivious to the the current taxation and motivated them to rebel. They boycotted British goods and tar and feathered the tax collectors.
I believe the biggest policy against the colonials was the Stamp Act. It forced all printed materials to be printed on stamped, British paper, which was taxed heavily. This was essentially one of the biggest factors in the American Revolution.

I believe that the stamp act was the biggest policy against the colonists because it taxed them for everyday things that they didn't need to pay for before. The British caused the colonists to rebel by over taxing them and being cruel to the civilians. They made people who were undecided into radicals.
ReplyDeleteWhen the British went to take the guns, that was something the colonists weren't willing to allow happen. Although the colonists were willing to pay more in taxes, they weren't willing to allow the British to take away their means of self defense.

I find the Intolerable Act to be the most significant of the British policies. Why I think that is, that, as the name says, the rebels of the colonists considered the acts as intolerable. Even though it was only one third of the colonists that supported the rebellion, I guess these acts angered many people and became a motivation for them to put up resistance to the British parlaiment. Furthermore, it makes sense when it's pointed out, that the Intolerable Act was a react to Boston Tea Party, which I would consider as the most significant act of the colonists/Sons of Liberty, since they with this protest strongly expressed their rage, symbolically and physically.

ReplyDeleteMany of the colonists were upset over being taxed by the British. The Stamp Act by far aggravated the most. Being heavily taxed and having to pay for the British government other resources. The Intolerable Acts was later passes by congress also causing the colonists to act out. The Boston Massacre and the Boston Tea Party is the result of the acts passed by congress and the unnecessary taxing.
